About PrintMyQR

PrintMyQR is a free QR code generator built for one very specific job: letting you 3D print codes in two colors that scan the first time.

Who is behind it

PrintMyQR is a project by José A. Ramos, published under the trade name DOTOKUHOMES in Spain (full details of the owner are in the legal notice, in Spanish). He also runs Dotoku Homes, a Spanish website about housing and personal finance with free calculators.

Why this tool exists

Almost every QR code generator is designed for paper: you get a PNG image and little else. For 3D printing, that image isn't much use. It has to become a part with volume, the code has to be separated from the background so each prints in its own color, the white margin around it has to be kept, and the squares can't be so small that the printer nozzle can't draw them.

Doing that by hand takes a while in design software. PrintMyQR does it in seconds and gives you a 3MF file with both colors already assigned, ready to open in your slicer (Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer or Cura).

How it works under the hood

  • Everything happens in your browser. The QR code, the 3D model and the download are generated on your own device. What you type (a link, your wifi password or a phone number) is never sent to any server.
  • No sign-up and no watermarks. You don't need an account or an email address to download the file.
  • Static codes. The QR points straight to your link, without going through a middleman service. It never expires and keeps working even if this website disappears one day.
  • Sizes designed for printing. The tool warns you when each square gets smaller than recommended and keeps the margin QR readers need.

How it is funded

The tool is free and supported by advertising. Ads have no access to what you type in the generator, which never leaves your device. You can review which cookies are used and change your choice at any time from the “Cookies” link in the footer.

How we write the guides

The guides explain how to get the most out of a 3D printed QR code: which size to choose, how to print in two colors in each slicer and what to do if a code won't scan. They are based on how QR codes work (their quiet zone, error correction levels and the contrast a camera needs) and on the real options of each slicer. If you spot something that could be explained better or has changed, let us know.
